Mowgli

Carlsen’s Illustrated Short-Stories are brief, beautifully illustrated stories created by some of Denmark’s very best authors and illustrators. Suitable as easy reading for older children.

Sarah Engell is one of the most popular YA writers on the Danish scene, coining perfectly what it is like being young today, with no trace of moralisation or judgement. Now the grown-up audience will also benefit from her competent pen, when her novel, The Chinese Twin, is published in Denmark by Lindhardt & Ringhof in January 2021.

Synopsis

A girl lives in the dark behind a locked door. She has never seen the sky, the sun or the stars. But she is not alone. Her mum is there as well, and she is fast, strong, brave – and really good at crawling along the skirting boards. And through the bars of the metal grating, the girl can hear somebody singing…

This is a dark story about “Mowgli”-children; feral children who live in isolation and grow up with seldom – if any – human contact. All of them have little or no language.

With stunning illustrations by Cato Thau-Jensen.
